Realistic time investment
Programs require consistent weekly commitment.
Expect approximately 6-8 hours per week for video
content, reading technical materials, and completing
assignments. This does not include additional
shooting time for practice.
Learning proceeds at a fixed pace. Modules unlock
sequentially to ensure foundational understanding
before advancing. Participants who fall behind can
access recorded content but may miss live feedback
sessions.
- Live demonstration sessions: 2 hours weekly
-
Self-paced technical study: 2-3 hours weekly
- Assignment completion: 2-3 hours weekly
-
Additional practice shooting: variable based on
individual goals
Required equipment and space
You need access to studio lighting equipment or
continuous light sources. Specific gear lists vary
by program level. Entry programs can work with
two-light setups, while advanced modules require at
least three lights with grid attachments.
A dedicated shooting space with controllable ambient
light improves results but is not mandatory. Many
participants use temporary home setups, though this
limits certain modifier options and shooting angles.
- Camera with manual exposure control
-
Light meter or camera with incident metering
capability
- Minimum two light sources with stands
- Reflectors and basic light modifiers
Instructor interaction and peer feedback
Instructors review submitted assignments within 48
hours during program terms. Feedback addresses
technical accuracy, identifies measurement errors,
and suggests specific adjustments to lighting
placement or power ratios.
Discussion forums remain active throughout program
duration. Participants share test images, discuss
modifier choices, and troubleshoot equipment
challenges. Peer feedback supplements instructor
review but does not replace it.
Office hours occur weekly for technical questions.
These sessions focus on clarifying concepts,
reviewing specific shooting challenges, and
discussing equipment alternatives.
